I suggest kicking the tyres on a Ghost server. The publishing interface is powerful but minimalist, and they are working on full ActivityPub integration;
https://activitypub.ghost.org/
Once that's ready for primetime, people will be able to follow Ghost newsletters from our fediverse accounts. At which point I'll be very tempted to move the Disintermedia blog from SubStack to a locally-hosted Ghost server.
Dear #activitypub devs,
moin.
We need some feedback of how to #Place – please :)

I don’t quite get the difference between #ActivityPub vs #AtProtocol ….
Someone care to #ExplainLikeImFive ?

Ultimately, your income and career does not define you on the Fediverse.
As previously stated, on a corporate sponsored social media platform, a wealthy government, corporation, or individual could simply toss some ad dollars and have their way with the platform. For them, it is "pay to play" and we're often the worse for it (Elon Musk, is a good example of this).
The Fediverse puts us all on a level playing field, and no matter how deep someone's pockets are, they cannot set the policy and tone for the whole of the Fediverse.
Furthermore, your point of origin is also not restricted. The Fedi has circumvented the Great Cyber Wall of China, and given voices to people who, otherwise, could not freely express themselves in their home country.
That is something Facebook, Twitter (X), Reddit, and Blue Sky, cannot offer.
