@cwebber I still am not totally sure of what spritely does. I did a quick read through of the website (quick). I like it. But I'm not sure what it *is*... ? Working on activity pub via... what?

How do I use Goblins and in what contexts? I love game programming, but it is more than just game programming, right? How does the game programming work with activity pub? The website doesn't quite answer my questions, but that may be a failure to understand on my end.

All implementations of FEP-521a are implementations of Controlled Identifiers spec.

I was going to joke about implementing #ActivityPub over email to circumvent this mad new UK "Online Safety Act".

Though I'm now thinking that since under the hood it uses 'inbox' and 'outbox'... I reckon we can call it email anyway... sit on that and spin OFCOM.

Schade eigentlich, dass ich mit sowas, wie einer Bridge zu #BluSky handeln muss. Hätte die lieber mit #ActivityPub im #Fediverse

Die Kiste kann #ActivityPub und #RSS.

Servers that give you access to the network of #ActivityPub servers should also support #matrix to facilitate groups and encrypted messaging. Would this be possible? Could the process of setting up a #SocialWeb account simultaneously create a related matrix account?

It’s wasn’t so long ago that #Mastodon made up 90% of MAUs on the #Fediverse. Hell, it so dominated Fediverse usage that, for most people, Mastodon was the Fediverse.

But now Mastodon’s percentage of MAUs stands at 58%. And it’s probably lower because the second most popular Fediverse software distribution, #Misskey, doesn’t accurately report MAUs. So what happened?

I suspect four things:

  1. Mastodon validated the concept of a Fediverse, which prompted more devs to build for #ActivityPub
  2. As Big Social alienated their userbase, some of this userbase sought Fediverse alternatives. This is what drove popularity of #Lemmy and #Pixelfed.
  3. #Bluesky became the default alternative to #Twitter instead of Mastodon
  4. As Mastodon users became aware of a greater Fediverse, many migrated to other Fediverse software

Obviously, Mastodon is alive and kicking. It’s not going anywhere. Its continuing development is critical to the success of the Fediverse.

But at the same time, the success of Mastodon led to the success of other federated projects. And it works the other way around too. The success of other federated projects is also Mastodon’s success.

So really, lower MAUs for Mastodon is actually a giant win for the big pachyderm.

Part of me wants to try writing a very simple #ActivityPub library/app just for fun and to help me better understand the platform and standards.
