@vint @metallcorn @th3rdsergeevich Не верю я этому блюскаю. Вот прекрасная аргументация:
«First they embrace the enemy technology (this is where Bluesky supports federation), then they extend its functionality to where people depend on your add-ons (say if they extended ActivityPub by something like emoji reactions), and then they use that leverage to extinguish the competition».

> #Fediverse really kicked off when #ActivityPub became #W3C open standard. Five years of hard toot labour, first rewards rolled in and tons of grey hairs and worry wrinkles from creators and #fedizens alike, fed the spout to the doomscroll engine. Timeline passing, as we forge ahead in bubble carriages, into the #fragmentiverse we shall go. Where nothing is certain, except life with #BigTech.

Yea!? Who're you to say that? :blobhyperthink:

No way, silly! :blobaww:

Just learned a lot by reading @cwebber’s essay on “How decentralised is BlueSky?”.

It took me a good ~40 mins read, but this is a very good analysis of the #Twitter situation by @sandofsky, including a How did we get to here and comparing with other network rise and fall like #MySpace and #Digg.

Yeah, I am old enough to be in sync with these opinions, and I also see #Bluesky winning the Twitter exodus over #Mastodon just because feels like the old good Twitter.

Still, I believe that the future of social networks is federated over a same protocol, and the current #ActivityPub ecosystem is the closest we have now.

I don't think I've been entirely fair on atproto and want to give it some credit. The fediverse sits within an ecosystem that has centralised parts and if we grapple with that seriously, some of Bluesky's ideas are interesting and could be implemented in a different form while avoiding making one company responsible for everything.

"The Bluesky features we covet are almost always built on structures that were designed in anticipation of eventually treating the network’s users as a resource to be mined for profit. The question we should ask before incorporating any given feature is not: Can we do that here? but rather: Can it be done without replicating the exploitative structures it’s built on there?"

Mastodon is always available ;)

Really looking forward to this year's #DecemberAdventure!
Seeing what everybody was able to achieve last year was amazing.

This year's goal for me will be to make progress on a tiny #ActivityPub server, inspired by #permacomputing.
I'm not starting from scratch, I already implemented a few functionalities on and off this year.

Personally, I advocate for users directly owning and publishing content to subscribers with optional relay intermediaries, but nobody's asking me.

This would ask more of users, but agency must be seized. It is not given.
