I'm looking for someone to help me build the demo ui for #rdfpub
The application already exists and can be operated with simple things. Create and send note, show inbox/outbox, follow an actor.
I'm not fit for ui, so it looks terrible ;-) And there is still a lot to do.
But there is also a lot to do in the backend and coordination with the community regarding client to server interactions. I can't do that alone.

The Web has always been social. It's a network people use and communicate with. When I created my first website in the 90s, it had visitors. I didn't know who they were, except for those who sent me email. There has been forums, BBSs, IRC, since the 1980s.
So from the social perspective it does not really matter where your "instance" is, because it's already a part of a huge network. Your "instance" can be a website, a social media platform, or anything of a sort. It's a presence online.
The ActivityPub protocol that Mastodon, WordPress, Pixelfed and many other platforms online use, actually has endpoints called "inbox" and "outbox". The logic is very similar to email, but more real time.
So for those who criticize Mastodon or Fediverse as "difficult" or something that has no "reach" I want to say that any form of communication online (be it a normal website or Mastodon or whatever) has all the reach potential in the world. You just need to make yourself heard. We're too used to corporate platforms, money making machines and algorithms to do the work for us. It distorts the whole picture.
Centralized platforms have no future, but the social web is eternal.

Geïnspireerd door de inspirerende posts van Elena Rossini op o.a. haar blog https://blog.elenarossini.com/my-year-of-fediverse-explorations/ heb ik mijn experiment met #yunohost maar weer eens een nieuwe start gegeven. Inmiddels heb ik dit account op mijn eigen #gotosocial draaien en heb ik weer een test #pixelfed server ingericht met één account op elk (@pixelhead@xlabz.nl). Ook heb ik kort wat andere #activitypub gebruikende diensten uitgeprobeerd, meer of minder succesvol. Eigenlijk moet ik mijn experimenten vastleggen in een blog en vastleggen voor mijzelf en anderen hoe goed de ervaringen met zelf hosten zijn.
Overigens merk ik dat federeren nog wel wat (voor mij) onverklaarbaar gedrag vertoont, zoals doorzoekbaarheid van fediverse vanuit mijn gotosocial server, op zoek naar bekende accounts (eigenlijk werkt dit alleen bij import lijsten en soms bij individuele accounts) of de publieke stream in mijn pixelfed server die alleen pixelfed.social laat zien.
Mij lijkt het geweldig wanneer kleinschalige servers en grote instances even goed werken, zodat iedereen naar eigen behoefte de omgeving kan kiezen die het beste past. Hiermee leg je de basis voor lokaal verbinden en de mogelijkheid globaal bereik te hebben wanneer dat past.

Nach dem #TikTok-#Bann lese ich an allen Ecken überhebliche Kommentare, dass dies im #Fediverse nicht möglich sei.
Ist das wirklich so? 🤔
Eine dezentrale Struktur ist sicherlich resistenter gegen #Zensur als eine zentrale, aber meine Hand würde ich dafür nicht ins Feuer legen.
Der TikTok-Bann in den USA zielt laut https://www.heise.de/news/TikTok-verboten-Videodienst-in-den-USA-offline-10247810.html nicht auf TikTok oder #ByteDance selbst, sondern auf Hoster, App-Stores und andere Dienstleister.
Wenn die EU das Fediverse blockieren wollen würde, würde ich einen Crawler erwarten, der sich von Instanz zu Instanz hangelt (ähnlich wie Rechteinhaber Tauschbörsen überwachen) und Internetprovider verpflichtet, alle gefundenen Instanzen im #DNS mit #Zensursula-Stoppschildern zu blockieren und eine Mail an die Hoster/CA schickt.
Klar lässt sich das mit technischen Kenntnissen umgehen, wie auch bei TikTok. Aber für den Mainstream ist dann Schluss.
Ob auch #ActivityPub darüber hinaus direkte Angriffspunkte bietet, muss wohl die Zeit zeigen.

At the moment, I use IRC, Matrix, and SMS via #XMPP, and experimentally also #ActivityPub PMs (at the moment only with myself) using #libervia by @Goffi.
Libervia recently got support for email, too. If I ever get to know a person using DeltaChat, I'm prepared to chat with them using my #Jabber client 🙂
