For newcomers to the Fediverse (myself included) I wanted to provide a couple of links that illustrate the problems we need to navigate with this newer realm of social media. The existence of non-corporate, decentralized platforms triggers eutopic fantasies in my mind. I am certain that the decentralization of the web will send positive ripple effects throughout society. But the reality is that racism, misogyny, state surveillance, etc. are still factors that taint this space and the following links provide context for this that Fedi newcomers may not be aware of.
