So I had an interesting conversation with a person close to me about the #fediverse and the #entrybarrier... the claim was "it is kinda high!", so I thought "let's sit together and look at it how "just a random person" would try to figure out how to find a way into the fediverse"... the person holds a PhD in a non-MINT-field, has treated adhd and is kinda good in figuring stuff out. So environment variables are technically good but let's see. The scope was not to board them on as single person, the scope was to look at the barrier and process.
So we went through the "ok, let's do the google way without no prior knowledge about the terminology and so on" and so on and after 20mins I completely got their point.
This is garbage, if you have a niche interest and a limited amount of energy available to figure out a way into a new social network. I completely get why people rarely switch from facebook, instagram and so on if they are not "forced".
I have no real idea how to improve this except ... idk... teach people in 1:1 oder 1:n conversations/workshops/talks about the how and why and _maybe_ I'm able to make some guided suggestions where people should look based on their interests... and on the other side for example joinmastodon.org does not list literatur.social (german book and publishing focused instance), several listed servers where offline, instances.social does not list other instances like bsd.network and so on...
phew.
Lot's of things to be improved, where the clear answer is definitely not "just start another project" :/...
Also "the solutions" actually might really be to bite the bullet and do more talks at non-nerd spaces about the Fediverse...and why it's such a wonderful place.

Passei boa parte do dia tentando entender um pouquinho do #Bsky. Dá pra ter acesso a todas as mensagens sem logar, por exemplo. Claro que tem uma camada de anonimização, não revelando o handler de quem postou em "texto puro". Mas tem uma outra coisa que eu acho que entendi e me deixou estupefato: é que não dá para subir um servidor/instância sem o aval da empresa controladora. Aqui no #Fediverse você não precisa de autorização de ninguém para subir a sua própria instância. Isso, pra mim, faz toda diferença.

As much as I try to stay away from AI, I think some functionalities in the #Fediverse can and should be automated.
Like detecting a post's language? I keep forgetting to tag my posts the correct language, and apparently others too. Language filters don't work as a result. I think posts should be able to be auto-tagged based on a detected language.

Anscheinend wurde er von der Instanz gesperrt.
