Apparently there was a real problem in the #UK in the late 1960s that gave rise to an epidemic of twisted knickers. Three decades later, it spread to the #US as well.

Fortunately, the situation seems to be on a gradual decline. But it just goes to show that you never know the hidden problems with which some people must cope.

Ich will weg von #Google. Am liebsten mit der ganzen Familie. Suche nach einer Alternative zu #Gmail, #GoogleDrive, #GoogleDocs und Co. Möglichst ohne Selbsthosting. Gibt‘s Erfahrungen und Empfehlungen? Managed #Nextcloud? Wenn ja, wo? Was taugt #Collabora? Strato HiDrive? Fragen über Fragen … Gerne auch boosten für Reichweite. #FediPower

Google-Kalender zeigt keine Geburtstage mehr an

Auf der Kalender-Webseite von Google waren immer die Geburtstage meiner Kontakte zu sehen, aber seit einiger Zeit sind sie verschwunden. Woran liegt das?

Thanks, Google, for taking your place right alongside the news media itself in contributing to the rise in book bans, mis-/dis-/mal- information, and increasing fascism. Book Censorship News, April 19, 2024 #Books #Google #Censorship

#Google rephrased their user conduct.

We want to maintain a respectful environment for everyone, which means you must follow these basic rules of conduct:

comply with applicable laws, including export control, sanctions, and human trafficking laws

respect the rights of others, including privacy and intellectual property rights
don’t abuse or harm others or yourself (or threaten or encourage such abuse or harm)

— for example, by misleading, defrauding, illegally impersonating, defaming, bullying, harassing, or stalking others

I’ll believe that when I see it done … beyond sanctioning telling faker fraudsters and propagandists to go to hell

I read somewhere that adding “before:2023” to your #Google search will improve the quality of your results tremendously.

It seems to work to exclude AI-generetad garbage. At the very least, the *tone* of the results seem to be more cogent and purposeful.

I don't know enough about labor law to understand this completely but it seems not great?

'Alphabet Inc's Google on Friday said it will roll back requirements that U.S. suppliers and staffing firms pay their employees at least $15 an hour and provide health insurance and other benefits, a move that could allow the tech giant to avoid bargaining with unions.'

I really really dislike this new google search thing - even thou I thought I had disabled it (or said no when it first appeared) - and looks like there is no way to disable it.
