My guess is #meta is thinking that being the Gmail of the #SocialWeb is better than having Elon and #Twitter dominate the public conversation. They'd rather be a big player but not own the space, than have an asshole increasingly lock them out. Their efforts to federate #threads (and thus grow the fedi) need not be motivated by any notion of the greater good.

I don’t know about everybody else but have you tested that #Threads #fediverse sharing account options link? It just opens a browser for me.

Peter from Threads just made a demo and simultaneously announced a new Threads feature where there is a dedicated URL on Threads for enabling the ability to be followed from the fediverse! So you can really encourage Threads folks to federate by sending them an easy link

On blocking #threads
I'm testing this JOMO (Joy of missing out) hunch of mine. So far, my experience here tells me it's possible to nurture friendships—and readers for my blog—without interacting with threads.
Of course, I'm eager to learn from people here on #Mastodon who decided to leave the domain unlocked.
I'll share with you further learnings, but this might take a while (likely months LOL)
All in all, I choose JOMO, curiosity, and what feels like the less traveled road. Wish me luck.

When I joined the #fediverse I followed this user. It turns out to be a huge online abuse promoter. The classical example of a user crying for protection and saying he is defending "vulnerables". But he has no qualms to promote abuse soon as he can.

Absolutely true. Funny we are talking about this. Giving the federation of @potus account I found something outstanding. Those "activist" who "abhor Nazis and Transphobes" are the same one who will incur in the same behaviour soon as the find an opportunity. Example 1A (See image). @Gargron is probably the most cyberbullies user in the #fediverse . And he is getting cyberbullies by those who claim the are here seeking "protection". We humans are extremely flawed. #Threads
