For my $0.02, enshitification plus open source projects means that I often find myself paying (with money AND personal info) for features that I could just as easily host myself on a Raspberry Pi for Pennie’s a year. I’m playing with #yunohost over break and terrifically impressed so far.

@abeltramo follow-up question: my VPS provider has a super cheap plan for daily backups (like, 2 Euros a month).
Being a total newbie, it would be super easy to set up.
My VPS is only to test #GoToSocial and #YunoHost, doesn't have any critical information on it at all. If I lose all the data, that's not too big of a deal.
I am a big fan of the 3-2-1 backup system but in this case my VPS' daily backup will do I think. Thoughts?

The next chapter of my self-hosting journey is all about beefing up #security of my #VPS.
Do I have any idea of what I'm doing? Not really, no. But thankfully many of you here shared some brilliant tips (special thanks to @mkj and @st3fan)
Now, it's NOT very reassuring that #YunoHost's security page (recommended by St3fan) says:
"WARNING: Following these instructions requires advanced knowledge of system administration." 😳

Just released #flohmarkt 0.6.1~ynh1 for #yunohost. There are many new features - thanks for the impressing developments of the last two month to @grindhold@23.social and @midzer@chaos.social and all the other contributors!
- instance name is shown as page title of browsers
- visually reworked item page
- most tabs now feature icons
- visually reworked item tags
- sticky menu
- search Users in Admin View
- most used tags are now shown as clickable buttons on the front page.
- user settings dialog is now split into tabs "Profile" and "Account". "Profile" is for the public-facing unproblematic stuff and "Account" contains the more dangerous actions like "delete account" and "change email" e.t.c
- item authors may now change the order of the uploaded images
- new couchdb database view in this release: yunohost upgrade will run initialize_couchdb.py automatically for you
